Large Room Tips

Designing large scale rooms is harder than small rooms, in my opinion. But once you learn a couple of tricks, it’s much more manageable. The “tricks” are pretty straightforward: use oversized furniture and use more of it. Also, it helps a lot to pull the furniture off the walls and “float” it more towards the center of the room. These rooms by Heather Scott (here) are great examples of designing large scale rooms. In almost every one of them, the furniture is off the walls and there are “extra” pieces like floating ottomans. One favorite thing I like to do is use a coffee table AND ottomans in front of it (you’ll see  a good example below):
